About the job

About who needs care: Mom has short term memory loss. Her long term memory is good. She has mild dementia. She recently was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. She is getting stronger after starting the new medications and getting PT at home. She has been a very active, independent woman all her life. She loves puzzles, crossword puzzles, Chinese checkers and likes to read the paper and other magazines, like readers digest. She plays the piano by hear and by memory. She has a good appetite. She used to love to garden and work in the yard. She loves nature. She is a religious person who believes in God. About the care needs: Someone who is a people person, will communicate in a caring way, is patient and doesn't mind that mom repeats herself. Someone who enjoys listening and encouraging mom to talk about her past, play the piano and is willing to play games with her. Also needs to be kind, but persistent about mom using her walker when she forgets to. She may eventually be weaned from her walker, since she wasn't using it previously to her CHF diagnosis. Willing to sit with her on the porch and walk with her in the yard, but realizing mom may need limits as to what she can safely do. Remind her to take her pills with her breakfast. Mom can dress herself, but may need bathroom help and uses disposable briefs. Because of her STM loss, she needs clean clothes set out for her to put on in the morning. She needs to practice her PT exercises 1-2x a day which are easy to follow on a handout. Also, mom is a little hard of hearing and prefers not to wear her hearing aides as they bother her ears. My sister Linda lives with my mother, but works full time from the same home and so cannot be with mom from 8 a.m. to about 6 p.m. M-F. I live 30 min away. We need someone to be with her while my sister is working. Linda will set up mom's meds and has food available for her breakfast and lunches that the caregiver can serve her. Mom is a fun, delightful lady who loves to visit with people. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
