About who needs care: Norma is a retired medical research scientist/biologist. She loves sports (esp. football), flowers/flower arranging, and spending time with grandchildren. Currently she has congestive heart failure and moderate dementia, and she uses a walker. Her ideal day starts at 10 a.m. with a heathy breakfast. Afternoons she organizes photos and mementos. Evenings she watches TV and then goes to bed at 9 p.m. About the care needs: A calm, kind, yet direct, approach works well with Norma. It would be good for the people who work with her to be well-versed in handling dementia, as Norma is increasingly forgetful, though she can still carry out various verbal and numerical cognitive tasks. Unfortunately, she is also becoming deaf, so speaking loudly is a necessity. Norma is originally from the Philippines. She doesn't speak Tagalog, though she has fond memories of her family in Manila and Quezon City. She is also a lifelong Democrat and has a deep interest in Democratic politics. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
