About the care needs: We seek a companion for our father -- a very gentle, quiet 89-yr old suffering from dementia -- to give our mother 4-6 hour breaks several times a week. Ideally, a non-smoking, fluid English-speaking caregiver should have their own transportation as the care sessions will alternate between three homes in the Lynden area. The caregiver should try to engage Dad to make puzzles, play games, engage in conversation, share a snack, watch some TV together, etc. It is understood that Dad will want to spend some time in his easy chair solving crosswords alone or napping, but that the overall goal is engagement in a safe environment. Dad will need to be prompted to use the bathroom on a regular schedule, but he can do this independently yet. Services needed include: companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
