About who needs care: My mother passed away last month and my dad isn't managing well in her absence. I live 90 miles away and have been coming back and forth, but that's not sustainable. He lives alone in a rural location, is self-medicating with alcohol, not eating or sleeping well, and can't remember tasks or things we did from day to day. He shouldn't be driving, but still has needs outside of the house. He's keeping the house very tidy but is not remembering to drink water or eat much (if at all). He's deeply lonely, but I can't get him to come stay with me. I would like someone to check on him, potentially take him on errands, bring him small snacks (jerky, nuts, other moderately nutritious items) to eat and place them next to his chair along with a glass of water. He may be resistant to this, but I'm checking feasibility before bringing it up with him. About the care needs: I have no idea what's best in this circumstance. Someone kind, patient, but also with some firmness in compelling him to do things. ?? Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
