About who needs care: 82-year-old with early stage dementia; bladder control issues, osteoporosis, she lost her husband of many years in December and she needs to process this loss. An ideal day would be one where she is able to get a few walks in, accomplish small projects around the house, call or visit with a friend, and go bowling in Bluefield. About the care needs: Patient and inquisitive about learning about her and her life. Someone that could be upbeat, funny, and positive. Someone who is able to talk about medications in an accessible way. She only takes one medication and many supplements, but she is supposed to be taking eye drops 2 times a day, and there are probably osteoporosis medications that she will soon start taking. She prides herself on being 82 and not on major medication Someone who is able to put together simple, healthy meals and snacks. She also prides herself on having an excellent diet. She used to be vegan She does not eat meat with the exception of salmon on occasion, but she really doesn't like to cook any more (even though she will tell you that she does) and she will have trouble putting together meals, and will opt for canned soup and frozen meals instead. My mother does not like it when people have piercings, tattoos, or is a smoker and will struggle to connect with anyone who has these things. She was in a relationship with her husband for 39 years. She has trouble making day-to-day decisions and has always let him make decisions, run the household, and she waited on him everyday. Anyone who could remind her that she is in charge of her life now would be helpful. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
