About who needs care: Mom has mild dementia but still in independent living for now. She was widowed last year and still having trouble dealing with the loss. She has never lived alone and gets very lonely even with daily visits. She can't walk without the assistance of a walker and can only go short distances (like around the apartment). She definitely needs help with medication administration. She has her dinner delivered but doesn't like the food so needs help with lunch preparation. About the care needs: Must be easy going and take things in stride, staying positive with her. On the other hand must be firm but gentle when it comes to things like meds, bathing. She frequently feels "bad" although she can't always explain why. She does better when she gets dressed and out of the apartment but it is difficult to get her to do it. She used to love to cook so still likes talking about/trying recipes. She also used to enjoy redecorating her living space but as she becomes more depressed and isolated she doesn't do that as much. As far as skills, experience with dementia patients and medication experience is preferred. Any one who has worked with patients needing physical therapy is a "plus" but she rarely does her exercises. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
