About who needs care: My mother is 96 and very healthy. But she needs a great deal of assistance due to impaired mobility (she had an injury at age 21 which has increasingly impacted her abilities). She can walk for a short distance (and ordinarily does this once in the morning). She also has limitations to using her arms and hands. Her hearing is very limited, but she can hear if spoken to in. her left ear. At this time I am seeking someone who can spend 2-3 mornings with her to assist with her morning routine (8am-11am) and possibly additional time (if I need to travel). She needs assistance with getting out of bed, using her walker to get to the bathroom. She is then washed and dressed. For the rest of the day, she is primarily in her wheelchair or lift chair. I would, of course, share the details of her routine and her preferences for her breakfast, etc. She is a very gentle woman with very few requests. I may need to travel for a week or so (possible death in the family). If/when that happens, she would need assistance in the morning and evening (3:30-8:30 p.m. or so). My husband is often home and we have some flexibility. About the care needs: My mom is very "easy". She is fairly quiet but enjoys short conversations. A person with a calm personality would probably be a good fit - someone attentive to what she may need. She has no hobbies but enjoys watching the birds and people walking outdoors. The caregiver would need to be able to lift/transfer her and be willing to learn about how to assist her, given her unique needs. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
