About who needs care: My mother is Susan. She is 88. She has a peg tube and needs fed every 2-3 hrs. She can sort of move around, on her own, but sometimes needs help getting upright and often needs assistance dressing. She eats orally as well, and likes a small variety of food. Right now she doesn't go out much because of the weather and the cold. She reads, cuts out articles for her "notebooks", keeps a journal, and generally naps once or twice a day. She watches News all day, everyday. She has a Home Healthcare nurse currently, that comes in 2-3 times a week to take vitals, check her peg, and any swelling. She has low kidney function, congestive heart failure, reduced ability to swallow, sleep apnea, and sometimes has fluid in her lungs (so we try to keep her away from crowds/germs right now - at risk for pneumonia). I try to let her do as much for herself as possible and safe. I just need help with keeping her room/bathroom clean, checking her weight, blood pressure, and O2 sats. I'll put out her daily meds, but if you could help sometimes with fixing her a very small snack. About the care needs: Any interest in history? Books you've read? She's not big on anything fiction. She can't hear certain high frequencies, but refuses to wear her hearing aids - so anyone with a soft/higher-pitch/quiet voice would have a hard time communicating with her ... she'll think she understands, when she actually doesn't. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
