About who needs care: Our mother lives in Ellis County, at the senior apartments. She has memory issues, aphasia, limited mobility, and is mostly blind. We, her children, live in California and Washington, DC. She wants to remain independent but requires some limited, regular assistance - ordering and picking up groceries, making sure her food is appropriate and fresh, reading mail, light housekeeping, lifting things. She needs somebody to escort her to medical appointments and to manage and refill her weekly medication dispenser. She occasionally has basic problems with her phone or computer, such as accidentally turning off the ringer, and she cant see well enough to fix them. We think she needs 1-2 hours of help 3-5 times a week, total no more than 10 hours per week. On occasion, such as when she needs assistance getting to a doctors appointment, it might be 3-4 hours in a day. About the care needs: Mother has aphasia so can have difficulty communicating needs. Overall her assistance requirements are minimal - checking mail, light housekeeping, help ordering groceries, making sure her pills are set up, etc. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
