About who needs care: My mother has mid-stage dementia and gets easily confused. Frequently, she has Dr. appointments, volunteer activities and needs assistance shopping. She still drives during the day, but not often. She was playing tennis twice a week until her team dismissed her for being late. She would benefit from any physical activity. She is very insistent on doing things herself, until she becomes distracted and frustrated and remembering her task. As a former school teacher, she has a broad sense of interest in the world, loves her local Archaoelogy group, led a very active Girl Scout troop for many years. She consistent argues that her memory issues are just "Old Age", so denial comes up in conversation often. I have hired someone in the past to be with her during the day when she comes to visit in Dallas. She is adaptable and enjoys just having someone to talk to. She typically gets up around 7am, and putters around the house. She wants to clean up her clutter and "junk" piles, but is unable to focus for too long. She sometimes needs to be reminded to eat, take her pills or shower. She likes to watch PBS programs, tennis matches and PG Movies. She has a long term "boyfriend" who is very helpful, but is facing his on health challenges as well. About the care needs: Someone who will share their experiences in the world, their background and hobbies. Enjoys physical activity (daily walks, gardening, science, history, and likes to have friendly conversation. Patience and the ability to tolerate lots of frequent querstions, often the same one several times, and stay calm and cool. Ability to diffuse frustration and confusion with a soothing manner.
