About who needs care: Dad has Alzheimer's, he currently lives in an independent retirement home. They cook his meals and clean his apartment. I have been working with dad over the phone for the last 2 years but the demand on me is taking a tool, so I am seeking someone to help him take his medicine in the morning, evening, maybe do a load of laundry once a week. He takes medications morning and night, but I may be able to get the doc to sign off on taking it just once a day. Dad still showers alone, does his hair, brushes his teeth, but he is struggling in the mornings with what to do, so I spend 30 minutes every morning trying to get him going. So, if someone was able to show up in the morning, help him with his medications, get lay his clothes out for the day, and just get him going I think that'd take a lot of pressure off of me. He does pretty good during the day, but the sundown syndrome is real and he often gets confused in the evening. We do have the option to move him into their assisted living but it's really a nursing home an he'd only get 2 showers per week, they'd have to watch him, and he'd be sleeping in a hospital bed so I am trying to figure a way to keep him in independent living for as long as possible while keeping his safety top of mind. I am not sure if there's any way to run this through insurance, he has Medicare, the top of the line, and supplemental part D ins too. That said, I am not sure if he'd qualify for Medicaid. We have the ability to pay private pay if needed, but he only has so much money and depending on the weekly rate for something like this, I am not sure how long we'd be able to do this, but we are open to this and I as his caregiver think this would really help me out as well. About the care needs: Dad is an easy going conservative man, usually in good spirits, but the disease if taking its toll.
