About who needs care: Rod Lord, my almost 95 yo (Feb) dad, is a USAF ret LtCol. Currently lives at Lyndale Assisted Living. However, he pays for his meals to be delivered, yet he won't/can't eat them. The teeth that were supporting his partials have broken off & dentist said surgery would be too risky to complete; therefore, he can't chew. And, he has never eaten any green vegetables.. just peas. He walks with a cane, takes NO medications and his dementia is increasing, both long and short term memory. About the care needs: Caregiver needs to patient with dementia. Dad won't wear his hearing aids, therefore speaking loudly is necessary. He loves working daily 300 piece jigsaw puzzles, word search books etc. He scored a 19 out of 30 on his December cognitive test. Very intelligent, just can't remember. He used to carve wooden love spoons until his dexterity diminished. He isolates himself, knowing he can't converse well. He's very kind, and knows his social graces. He does get flustered easily but never combative, and won't wander. Grew up in Spokane WA, 21 years AF meterologist, then was a mechanical engineer and wrote multiple user manuals, self published an historical fiction trilogy and an autobiography. Lived 40+ years and retired in Spokane. Mom passed in 2001. He moved to be near us in Boise ID 10 years ago in independent living until we moved to Abilene two years ago. His personal hygiene is sporadic, and needs help choosing clean clothes. Wears a knee brace, and does not wear his glasses (distance). Services needed include: companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
