About who needs care: My grandmother is a fiercely independent woman who has taken care of her brother, mother, and husband and does not want to impose on her children or grandchildren. She is cognitively intact, however recently underwent a hip replacement and is having difficulty managing certain tasks independently (I. e. lifting items 10 lbs, grocery shopping, putting away dishes, etc). She has also not yet been cleared to drive herself to appointments and finds her walker to be too heavy to remove from the trunk independently. She would strongly benefit from someone who is willing to help her get out of the house for a pleasure drive or help with getting to an appointment. She loves playing cards and would likely appreciate simply having some helpful company a few hours a week. About the care needs: An ideal caregiver would be someone who is understanding of how difficult it may be for someone to rely on someone else for help. My grandmother tends to get along with most personalities, however tends bonds with those who can lead conversation and initiate an offer of help. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
