About who needs care: There are some underlying conditions. She has controlled hypertension, high cholesterol, and severe arthritis. She is in the mid-late stages of alzheimers so there is confusion sometimes upon waking up for the day, she is not aggressive though. She loves watching TV, especially older sitcoms, she loves search and find books on more lucid days. And ideal day for her is what we call "pajama days". She sleeps in a later, has her breakfast and coffee, the coffee is a must :), and gets to lounge in her pajamas. She rarely eats lunch as she's been waking up later in the afternoons now, but will have a snack of chips or banana. And then dinner around 7-8 while catching up on the news for the day. And then bedtime. About the care needs: An ideal caregiver would be someone that could find ways to engage my mom in conversation while they are there. My mom will talk about flowers or gardening, she pays attention to the shows on TV and laughs with them. My mom can be a little sarcastic or jokey. No specific hobbies or interests are needed in the caregiver, just someone who doesn't treat her like a piece of furniture and not acknowledge her or talks to her like she's five. Ideally, the caregiver would be a woman, as helping her to the bathroom is required and helping her wash off in the mornings, and she won't be comfortable doing either of those things in front of anyone male presenting. No specialized skills are needed either, just the ability to help her get up from the sofa or bed to help make it to the restroom. She does use a walker for mobility assistance. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
