About who needs care: 88year old female with dementia and mild congestive heart failure. She also has severe hearing impairment and macular degeneration causing significant visual impairment. She does not want to go to a senior center or partake in social activities. We (my sister and I) thought it might be helpful to have a companion sit with her and chat. About the care needs: I think Mom would enjoy someone who can have a conversation. She likes to talk about her past. No specialized skills needed but the person should understand dementia and the fact that she will repeat things or, because of her hearing loss, she might answer a question in the way she thinks it should be answered but doesn't really know what was said. Services needed include: companionship.
