About who needs care: My father lost the use of his legs due to a rare virus. He needs help getting out of bed in the morning, but does 90% of the transfer, then to commode chair over the toilet, help toileting, and washing and dressing, then to his power chair. He doesn't need much help during the day, but does need simple meals and pill reminders. Then later in the day he needs transfer back to bed. He is in bed about 12h/day. He has only once in 3 months needed anything overnight. He has an indwelling catheter, for which we get nursing care. My sister (50yo) lives at his house but she has CP and has walking and other difficulties. She does not need care except doubling up of the Lunch and Dinner prepared for my father. I work very close (4 minutes by car literaly) from my father and am heavily, heavily involved with his care. I spend multiple nights at my fathers and cook meals and do anything that needs to be done. I take him to all appointments. I have professional cleaners come in twice a month, but light kitchen and bathroom cleaning in between is appreciated. We are looking for live-in care because I don't want to make my sister responsible for any emergencies that might occur if I am not home. She helps a lot but should not be responsible for emergencies. There are two cats. The caretaker would have zero responsibilities for the cats. About the care needs: My father is a bright, generally cheerful person despite his sudden condition. He works hard at his PT and being an easy patient. His old nurses from SNFs still visit him because they loved him. He does not have dementia. Someone similar to his demeanor would be great. Needs to be able to help do the squat-pivot transfer, but my father does 85-90% plus. Simple meal prep (I can leave recipes or we are happy if someone has meals they make). Willingness to help with the random things that come up. I will be a partner to help as I am in the office 4-5 days/week (aka, 4 minutes away) and ultimately want to be there with him two nights a week. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
