About who needs care: Hello. Thank you so much for taking a moment to read our story. As some of you are aware, dear Linda Burton had a major stroke on September 5, 2024. This was a severe stroke, and she needed emergency surgery to remove 3 clots from her brain. She then went into the Intensive Care Unit and was placed on a ventilator. She spent several weeks in the ICU and had trouble waking up and staying awake for several more weeks. The left side of her brain was affected by the stroke, which has unfortunately impacted all function on the right side of her body and her speech, as she developed aphasia. Once she was stable enough, she transferred to the Neuro Unit in the hospital and started participating in speech, occupational, and physical therapies but needed a PEG tube inserted. She was in the hospital until October 4th and then transferred to an inpatient rehab facility, Encompass, in Reading, PA. She has made great strides participating in all the therapies but unfortunately, she requires complete, total care and Encompass is a short-term facility. The initial goal was to get her placed into a nursing home from Encompass but after numerous referrals, she was not accepted by any facility. We had a meeting with Encompass and the only other option is to send her home, which is definitely a blessing but also a hurdle because of her needing 24/7 care. She is currently on Johns (her husbands) insurance and Medicare but as you know, there are certain things covered and not covered with insurance. About the care needs: The biggest thing we deal with is having to use a Hoyer lift and turning her by hand to change incomitance pads. Someone with some muscle would be great! Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
