About who needs care: My dad has Vascular dementia secondary to vaccine injury. He was previously very active: YWCA 3days/week, biking, hiking, kayaking. He's a retired Balto City Fire, retired US Coast Guard and also served in the US Navy. He is very forgetful, gets lost easily, he struggles with word retrieval, but loves to talk. He accidentally took my mother's medications. He is taking 10-12 showers per day, which is ridiculous. He can be redirected, but mom is losing her patience. Ideally, I would have someone there around the clock, but we need to ease in to this. I'd like to start off with 2 days per week to give mom respite time to do what she needs to do for herself. Weather permitting, take dad for a walk or drive over to the outlets to walk, maybe to senior center or YWCA so he can socialize. Then as needs change and when they both get used to this, we can increase days/ hours. About the care needs: Ideal caregiver would be a well rounded conversationalist, someone with dementia training, sense of humor, fitness minded or able to tolerate taking outside walks. A veteran would be great, as they would have lots in common. Services needed include: transportation, and companionship.
