About who needs care: Hi husband, Josh Shindler, is 35 years old and has a severe neurological condition resulting from untreated Long COVID. He caught COVID in 2020, during the first wave. Josh is bedbound, and his meals have to be blended or pureed on most days. He struggles to listen to human voices or speak, and often communicates using a whiteboard. Before he became sick, he was a software developer with a passion for psychology and mindfulness. He was also a talented musician. He has practiced meditation for 15 years. He struggles to do these things now, as they bring on neurological symptoms such as: Painful tinnitus, burning sensations inside his body, headaches, whole body aches, light and temperature sensitivity Chewing food, touching his hair, hands and feet can also bring on these effects. Washing is currently difficult, and will be handled by me (his wife) and his mom. Josh is sweet and quiet, and is not cognitively impaired from his condition. He is overall withdrawn. He is showing a lot of resilience for how scary this situation is. About the care needs: We would like to start with someone who would batch prepare Josh's meals for 3-7 days ahead. Most of the meal prep will involve preparing large quantities of: Garlic mashed potatoes (no milk or cream, olive oil only) Sweet potatoes (no milk or cream, olive oil optional) Garlic minced chicken and turkey And them measuring them and portioning them into glass tupperware, which can be reheated through the week. Someone with experience in the kitchen, and able to handle simultaneous cooking and cleaning tasks in an efficient and organized way, would be a good fit. If this person was a good fit personality wise with Josh, this person might also provide company for him on days where his mother and I are working. A good personality fit would be someone who is quiet and steady and can provide a compassionate presence without much conversation. He likes it when people sit quietly in the room with him, doing things like reading, thinking, or meditating. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
