About who needs care: My husband is 83 years old and has Parkinson's. He generally sleeps until around 9:009:30 AM, and once awake, it takes him over an hour to get ready for the day. If he is making his own breakfast and showering, the process can take closer to two hours. I am in good health and still work part-time from home, with occasional appointments outside the house. However, as his condition has progressed, he now requires assistance with daily activities, medication management, transportation, and general supervision. He has a few standing appointments each week, including therapy and personal training, for which he needs transportation. Additionally, I would like support during my own appointments, as I can no longer leave him home alone. Once a month, I attend a Parkinson's support group for spouses on a Saturday, and I need help during that time as well. This is the only Saturday assistance I anticipate needing. He would love to be able to get out of the house more often, and perhaps go to the gym, visit local family or just go for coffee at Barry's espresso and bakery. Beyond transportation and supervision, I am looking for someone who can provide light assistance with his daily routines while being present and attentive, so that both of us can have a little independent time. Light housekeeping support would also be appreciated to help relieve some of my workload. The ideal arrangement depends on personality fit, schedule flexibility, and cost. I am looking for anywhere from 8 to 20 hours per week. About the care needs: Ideally, a caregiver would be well organized, assertive, and kind. No specific skills or interests or hobbies are required. Personality fit will be important. My husband is a quiet individual, but likes to talk and meet new people in one on one situations. But his talking has really slowed and conversations can be very one sided, if one doesn't give him time to process and speak. Patience is important. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
