About who needs care: My mom is 83. She is having memory issues. She is physically slow, but still moves around. She likes to garden, read a little, watch westerns and spend time on her back porch when the weather is nice. She is great at drawing, but doesn't do it much anymore. She was an amazing kindergarten teacher and LOVES children. She has a small maltese dog that she loves and is perfectly sweet and behaves perfectly and goes with her wherever she goes. My mom is struggling with losing her independence. She often gets overwhelmed very easily and anxious, which is very different from how she was in the past. When she does, she wants to lay down. Though she enjoys being alone, I can tell she is quite lonely. Her laundry room is down steep basement stairs. She goes down the stairs on her butt, but has to leave the laundry down stairs and wait for someone to bring it up. It would be better if she didn't go down the stairs at all. She primarily just needs help going through her mail to discern what is junk mail, small chores around the house, help with laundry and dishes and companionship. Eventually, she might appreciate help with transportation and errands if trust is built. About the care needs: Someone who is kind and patient and likes small (perfectly behaved dogs). Someone who is intuitive and likes to engage, listen and "be her friend" while doing the small tasks. The person would need to be good at understanding if and when something is starting to overwhelm my mom and assist her; however, if she doesn't want help with something - then respect her wishes. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
