About who needs care: We're seeking a new caregiver for my grandma, who is in her late 90s. One of her current caregivers is transitioning to being a stay-at-home mom, and we're hoping to find someone just as dependable and kind to join her care team. About the role: My grandma's routine is simple but requires attentive care. Key responsibilities include helping her to the dining room for meals (usually microwaveable or delivery), assisting her to and from the bathroom 1-2 times a day (including providing hygiene support, as she's unable to wipe herself), and ensuring she's comfortable while she watches TV or sleeps in her lift recliner chair. For morning or evening shifts, you would also help her get out of bed or prepare for bed. She is calm, pleasant, and generally conversational when she's awake and not resting, but she does experience age-related memory loss. Caregivers help guide her through her daily routine and provide gentle reminders, such as asking if she needs to use the restroom. She can safely remain seated in her recliner chair when left alone, but she requires physical assistance to get into her wheelchair and on and off the toilet. Her home is well-kept, so while occasional light tasks such as wiping counters, laundry, or running the dishwasher are appreciated, these are not daily requirements. Caregivers typically have plenty of downtime between her needs. Who we're looking for: We are seeking a trustworthy, dependable, and genuinely caring individual with a kind heart. Trust is incredibly important to us, and our family has developed close relationships with her current caregivers. We're looking for someone who will treat my grandma with the same compassion, patience, and respect they would show their own loved ones. Our role: As a family, we cover every shift when a caregiver isn't available, and one of us stays overnight with her every night. We are flexible on scheduling and are happy to offer as many hours as possible to the right person. About the care needs: As detailed in the first prompt, you must be willing and able to help lift her to standing and swivel into her wheelchair (usually a 2-5 second process). Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
