About who needs care: My parents are 82 years old, and they want to age in place. My mother has mobility issues due to back surgery and foot and ankle issues. My father has Alzheimer's and is a fantastic person who can't remember anything these days. Traditionally, Dad was the one who took care of things around the house. He was the one who took the pool cover off every morning, watered the flowers, changed the light bulbs, and helped clean up after my mother made dinner. However, due to his condition, these tasks have now become challenges that we need help with. We also need help for my mother, who would like to find someone who is not an aid but a housekeeper. Someone to help with laundry, prepping the food for her to cook my dad dinner, and running to the store to get missing ingredients or other errands she might come up with. She does not like to be taken care of; she is the take care of personality, but it is just too hard to keep up with the home and property tasks by herself now that Dad has difficulty paying attention or remembering anything. Also, both my sisters and I live within a few miles of their home and are constants around the house, so the housekeeper or whatever title we come up with has support and help all the time and should be a positive long-term hire if the proper person comes along. About the care needs: The best skills you can have are a good personality and being responsible for showing up on time. I like to cook, don't hate to clean, and can do tasks like moving a sprinkler hose or watering flowers. Opening and closing pool covers are the most ordinary things. Can safely drive parents to places. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
