About who needs care: Jerry is an 84-year-old Veteran, business owner, father of 4 grown children and one little dog ("Jasper",) grandfather to 16, friend of many, and widower to his beloved wife (my mom,) Pat. Until his recent 10-day hospitalization for sepsis and a hip revision, dad was very active: going to work and working out 3 days/wk, attending church a couple times/wk, walking his dog, and hosting his 'bros' for bourbon and cigars down in his basement man cave. He came home from the hospital very weak and with severe, post-surgical, mobility limitations. In the past two weeks of his return home and recovery has gotten stronger, lighter, and more independent - getting to bathroom and around the house with the heavy use of a walker, but still requires a lot of support with activities of daily living: bathing, dressing, bills, letters, meals, pet care (dog walk, feeding), etc. I'm (Karen, Hi) his daughter and current primary caregiver, but have to return home to Los Angeles in the very near future. - business-owner and busy father of teenagers) live in the area, and his son, M, lives in Costa Rica and visits as often as he can. Our goal is to find a competent, patient, experienced caregiver with intelligence, intuition, and integrity, to continue supporting Jerry through his recovery to independence. About the care needs: If I had to choose one adjective to describe the ideal caregiver's personality it would be: authentic (Jerry can smell inauthentic like a mouse fart a mile away.) He appreciates real people in whose company he can 'tell it like it is,' and ask for what he needs, and know he'll get the same honesty in return. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
