About the job
About who needs care: Both of my parents are on the dementia spectrum, but my dad's is mild at this time, and it's really my mother that needs the active care -- she's got Alzheimer's. Additionally, her language has been severely impacted, resulting in complete loss of English communication, leaving only Greek, which is the most tricky bit of finding a caregiver, since the social contact and rapport are so important to her quality of life. Additional needs are making sure she eats and toileting. My dad handles bathing in the evening. She likes to walk, and is extremely capable at it given her overall condition. We are especially looking for August coverage (29 July through 29 Aug). About the care needs: Apart from the Greek language proficiency, a bubbly and affectionate personality is ideal. We'd love for the caregiver to take our mom to places where she can interact with other Greeks during the day (or current caregiver, who is taking a family vacation to Greece for August) take her back over to her house, which has numerous Greek speakers, but any similar environment would be ideal (which I'll concede is easier said than accomplished) Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
