About who needs care: Lymphedema in right arm (uses a pressure cuff for one hour in the morning, one-half hour in the evening; wears a pressure sleeve every day) Some difficulty walking Some short-term or working memory issues Needs to practice walking to increase distances walked Needs to perform prescribed exercises for shoulders and arms (especially left arm after shoulder surgery many years ago) Needs to work with someone on memory exercises Hobbies/Interests: Knitting, mahjong, plays piano, member of synagogue choir (although she says that she doesn't have a good voice; still likes to sing); loves going to concerts, theater, listening to music, poetry, crossword puzzles. Likes to travel. Wrote for radio and television as a young woman. Also designed jewelry. Middle-age, taught English in High School up until the pandemic and was a substitute teacher for a variety of courses. IDEAL DAY: Start reasonably early around 7. 30 a.m. Shower Tues, Thurs, Sunday Make Bed, Dress, Breakfast, Pressure cuff/Chant-meditate-read During the day watch videos (with someone) about playing mahjong. Practice mahjong. During the day go for a walk to improve walking and distance walked. Also perform prescribed exercises for shoulders, neck, arms. Practice piano. Practice choir songs. Schedule online or phone calls with two best friends and with daughter, grandchildren (4) and great-grandchildren. About the care needs: Smart with good energy who can see our mom as an amazingly talented woman with wonderful stories to tell. Someone who works with our mom's lack of patience. Should be facile with computer helping mom watch instructional videos, for example, and/or following online instructions re how to create a New York Times crossword puzzle. Someone who will gently ensure that she does the exercises she doesn't like doing, and will help her improve her memory. Someone who will periodically take her places locally on small adventures of discovery. Hobbies: Great if this person knitted and/or played mahjong. Services needed include: transportation, companionship, and mobility assistance.
