About who needs care: Condition: Progressive supranuclear palsy with very poor vision, speech and swallowing issues, high fall risk and instability, uses rollator even indoors, osteoporosis. Wears compression knee socks, needs help dressing and bathing.( Ideal candidate has experience with elderly persons with degenerative neurological disease.) Interests: sports, liberal politics, climate change and energy policy, international affairs and history. About the care needs: Someone who - speaks slowly, is empathetic and willing to learn to take time for him to formulate his words and understand his speech. - is nonjudgmental about our organizational limitations and willing to help with housework without pressuring us as we slowly take on sorting and downsizing tasks. - will be a very responsible companion for outdoor walks, anticipating hazards and alerting him to street signs, tree pits, guiding him to curb cuts, that he cannot see himself, helping him cross streets and ease his rollator up curbs, helping him be seated on benches, chairs, etc., helping him rise safely and steady himself. - is capable of managing his bathing, dressing (including putting on his compression socks), and sometimes toileting. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
