About who needs care: Dementia. Trouble with memory, losing things, disorientation (forgetting where she is, how she got there, how to get to an appointment or old friends house, how to get home - my dad takes her most places), trouble organizing herself for meal prep and other daily tasks. History of ADHD, so already some difficulty with organization. Needs help and techniques/systems to compensate. Needs help managing care. I am a psychologist and have been unable to reach her neurologist, who is overbooked and under-treating my mother. He is still calling it pre-dementia. My parents do not advocate effectively for themselves nor do they liaise or communicate with doctors effectively. We need help coordinating their care so they are effectively treated by their doctors. My dad is also starting to lose memory and executive functioning skills he once had. My brothers and I all live over 5 hours away, so someone to check on them, make sure they know their appointments, have their medications, have food in the house, and someone to accompany them to appointments so that they accurately represent their conditions and remember the treatment plan the gives them. I told my dad to call me during medical visits and to take notes and he keeps forgetting to do either. About the care needs: Nursing degree, experience with dementia. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
