About who needs care: My parents are 91. They are very independent but should really not be driving. Dad has some memory issues and has macular degeneration in both eyes. Hes fiercely independent so he still wants to run his own errands but need someone to drive him. Mom drives him now but its a lot for her too. Shes 91 and also very independent. But she's getting more frail and has some balance issues and gets tired quickly when out and about. She also has some memory issues but different than my Dad. Dad forgets that he's asked a question or had a conversation. Mom forgets how to do things that she's always done (balancing a checkbook, paying bills, etc). She is fully aware of this confusion and its very frustrating to her. Dad is unaware of his forgetfulness. I love about a half hour away and am very involved with them. But it would be helpful for me to have someone who could take them to run some errands, check in on them, help clean the house or prep a meal or two. About the care needs: Energetic and friendly. Someone who doesn't speak to them like they are children. They value their independence and would not stand for someone baby talking them or anyone who seemed that they don't want to be there. No specialized skills needed. My father was a lifelong sailor. He likes to take daily walks. They are animal lovers but have no pets now. Someone with a dog that could visit would be amazing. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
