About who needs care: My mom has developed an underlying heart condition that is causing edema in her legs making it painful to walk, although she can get around with her walker. She needs help with dressing and showering. She is starting to forget some things but is still sharp, reads, listens to music, communicates well, and her long-term memory is very detailed. She watches TV, loves movies (has a big DVD collection), and does crossword puzzles. She is really in great shape for someone 93 years old, but is needing more help to do things - and is embarrassed by that. She wakes up early so mornings would be good for the shower and dressing. Taking walks each day around the property for about 15-20 min would be helpful to get out of the apartment. She has family in the area who are active in her care, but she is starting to need more than the family can do. About the care needs: Someone who is genuinely interested in their client and not just there to pass the time. Someone who is patient, a good conversationalist, a Christian would be a benefit but not necessary if they have a good heart. Someone who laughs easily and enjoys Life. Skills: helping with dressing, showering, confirming that she takes her pills, and motivating my mom to get exercise and go outside. Someone with an interest or knowledge of classical music would be great. My mom played clarinet in the ABQ symphony, played piano for years, sang in church choirs, and listens to music on KHFM. Services needed include: companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
