About who needs care: My mother has fallen twice in the last year and ended up in the hospital both times. The first time resulted in a broken arm and femur, and the second time was a significant head injury. She can walk short distances with a walker, but is unsteady on her feet. She doesn't really have many hobbies other than a small amount of reading and watching TV. At present, the home care aid arrives at 8:00am, helps my Mom get out of bed, dressed, brush teeth, etc. She brings my Mom down stairs and gets her coffee/breakfast. Afterwards, she reads the paper, watches TV. The aid makes them lunch before leaving for the day. Breakfast usually consists of eggs, oatmeal, cereal or something simple and lunch is a warming up a Factor 75 meal which just needs to be warmed up in an oven. About the care needs: We presently have two aids. One works 8 a.m. to noon. She does a great job getting my mom up and moving as well as making her meals. While she does a great job with the tasks, she does really interact with my mom. The second aid comes in at 4pm-8 p.m. and makes her dinner and helps her get to bed. She also spends time talking with my mom and getting her to read, work on puzzles and other things other than watching the news. We're hoping to find someone that could go for short walks, sit out on the back patio, and spend a little time talking. Services needed include: companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
