About who needs care: Hi, I am looking for a compassionate and reliable caregiver to assist my mother in her home during the evening hours. She has tremors, uses a wheelchair, and requires support with toileting, feeding, and getting to bed. Since I live in DC and cannot be there full-time, we need someone to help fill in gaps in her care schedule. The position is for a 5-9 PM shift, which includes helping with cooking and feeding her dinner, assisting with toileting, and getting her settled for the night. I'm happy to work with you to add an hour or so if needed. Before her stroke, my mom loved going out shopping, gardening, and arranging flowers. She has always had a love for beauty and nature. We would love to find a caregiver who can not only assist with her daily needs but also engage her in small activities that bring her joy. Ideal candidates will have experience with mobility assistance, personal care, and meal support. Patience and kindness are key, as well as reliability and good communication. If you are interested and available, please reach out, I would love to discuss how you can help support my mom! Thank you. About the care needs: What type of personality would be a good fit? A patient, compassionate, and attentive caregiver would be the best fit for my mom. Someone with a warm and friendly demeanor who can engage her in conversation and make her feel comfortable would be ideal. She would do well with a caregiver who is gentle yet proactive in providing support and can bring a sense of calm and reassurance to her daily routine. Are there any specialized skills they need? Yes, the caregiver should have experience with mobility assistance, as my mom uses a wheelchair and requires help transferring. They should also be comfortable with toileting assistance, feeding support, and light meal preparation. Experience working with individuals who have tremors or neurological conditions would be beneficial. Additionally, knowledge of fall prevention and proper body mechanics for safe transfers is important. Should they have any specific hobbies/interests? While not required, a caregiver who enjoys gardening, flowers, or shopping would be a great match, as these were my moms favorite activities before her stroke. Someone who appreciates nature or can engage her in simple, enjoyable conversations about these topics could help bring her joy and a sense of familiarity. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
