About who needs care: Aphasia, epilepsy, CHF, fall risk, Prior Stroke (right-sided deficits), hypothyroidism, cardiovascular disease. Uses wheel chair mainly. Working on PT. Cannot make food on their own but can eat on their own. Right hand is not working. Cannot read or write but understands everything (sometimes confused) but Intellectually intact. Watching TV/Movies, trying to talk to people and listening to their stories, comedy, art, animals, nature. My mom is a bit of a late sleeper (so am I) so she typically gets up around 11am, goes to the bathroom (with assistance), gets breakfast and meds at 12pm. She takes both morning and night meds (I handle the night). She usually just watched TV or falls asleep (she's tired from meds and her medical conditions). Ideally make her lunch at 4 and bring her to the bathroom half an hour before HHA leaves. 2-3 showers a week (she has been taking 2 as of late as she hates showers). About the care needs: Someone who can communicate well, understand and speaks clear English (it's hard for mom to understand thick accents and her aphasia makes it very difficult for others to understand what she is trying to say). Someone who is patient and can take their time with my mom. Aphasia can be very frustrating and like a game of charades, so it's important that someone has a good sense of patience. Someone who can give my mom her meds on time and keep a daily log of my mothers weight, blood pressure, and HR every morning to track her CHF. Someone who can meal prep for my mom. She is a very simple eater, but kind of picky. I have easy things she can eat that's healthy, so all ingredients are easily accessible in the fridge. Someone who has a decent knowledge of what to do of there is an emergency. I have had someone freak out and run around in circles when my mom passed out instead of calling 911. Remaining calm is best for everyone in the situation. Worst part about this job is helping my mom in the restroom. She can't wipe herself properly and went through 2023 mostly in the hospital and short term rehabs for reoccurring UTIs. We found the solution: wiping her butt after she used the bathroom. She can use wipes on her lady parts, but the backend needs assistance. I have all the supplies needed to handle that so no worries. Bathing wise, ideally would like a minimum of 2 showers per week for her. Personality wise, just Someone who is humble, enjoys a good laugh, and easy-going. Me and my mom are goof balls and we don't need much. It can get a bit boring when my mom sleeps, so feel free to bring your own type of entertainment. I don't expect you to be a maid or chef of the house and we would both rather you feel comfortable than anything else. Must be okay with cats. We have 5. They are fluffy goofballs. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
