About who needs care: My father, William, is a 72-year-old male with advanced vascular dementia. He has moments of lucidity, but many times he has difficulty making decisions. He is non-ambulatory and is currently using a hospital bed provided by Angelic Hospice. He is able to self feed with many finger food items, but he struggles with using utensils. He requires some prompting to finish chewing or taking a sip to clear his mouth when swallowing. William is on thickened liquids for his drinks. He often has difficulty following directions and may require some verbal and tactile redirection to complete tasks. William typically watches TV most of the day or takes a nap. He does receive services from hospice care about 4-6 hours per week. I am looking for someone that has some flexibility to come in afternoons or evenings so that my mother, Theresa, can have more time for self-care activities. About the care needs: Looking for an individual that understands the challenges of working with an individual with dementia and the need for support to prevent further caregiver burnout. My father will need someone who is able to provide him with changing him when he's wet, sponge baths, feeding, and preparing meals for him. He will also need someone who is comfortable in giving him his medications as needed or prescribed. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
