About the job
About who needs care: 83-year-old dad can no longer drive after singular seizure incident. He is very active and walks 10, 000 steps/ day but his quality of life has diminished now that he cant drive, and he isn't comfortable using app. So he only leaves home when absolutely necessary and when he can get a ride from my mother or sister. He used to be out and about all day. So he needs someone to drive him around to all his errands, take him to doctor appointments, assist my mother (age 80) in carrying things, housework. Perhaps walk with him. Someone to be at his disposal 3-4 days a week. They are in pretty good shape but an assistant would be great. They both have balance issues. No major Underlying conditions for either but he occasionally (once every few months) has neurological events that cause him to be disoriented for a few minutes. Once he lost consciousness (while driving). He cant eat salt due to high blood pressure. For her, just high blood pressure and AFIB. Ideal/Typical day for him: Early morning walk outdoors followed by a doctor appointment, picks up groceries at a couple different stores, lunch at home, plays sudoku on his computer, goes to my sisters house (in Closter 10-15 mins away) to help kids with homework till time for dinner, dinner back home, an evening walk outdoors, in bed by 9. About the care needs: Someone who speaks English very well, if they speak Italian would be ideal, as both people in home are Italian Immigrants. ( they are completely fluent in English). Somebody active, warm-hearted, with a good sense of humor (my father is very jovial and good natured, my mother also warm but more shy at first) Someone who is a good conversationalist. Someone who is an excellent driver with credentials. If they like cooking/ are good at cooking that would be a plus as my mother is always in the kitchen. Someone who is not severely allergic to cats as they have a cat. If they are good with technology would be a plus as my parents need a lot of help in that department (troubleshooting an issue with their phone, etc) Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
