About who needs care: My mother is 86 years old and has dementia and Alzheimer's. She lives with my 89-year-old father. He requires little assistance. However, my dad serves as my mom's primary caregiver. She often sleeps until 4-6 p.m. Most days she doesn't get dressed and stays in her housecoat. She can go to the bathroom herself, but needs standby assistance when bathing. She is not combative, but often resists getting out of bed and showering. Primary duties include ensuring that she gets out of bed by 3 p.m. and is bathed twice a week. Secondary duties include light housekeeping, meal preparation, and companionship.
