About who needs care: Pops has dementia but its mild and is on oxygen at night only due to COPD and Emphysema. He likes watching westerns, walking outside on the gazebo, coloring. A day for pops: * 9 a.m. I make him breakfast (usually cereal, bc that's what he likes) and give meds. (All meds are in a med box I prepare every Sunday, with the exception of his lunch med. It's one pill for his prostate. He sits in living room watching TV or in the kitchen at the bar coloring *snack if he wants (usually he doesn't want one but occasionally he may) *I make him lunch at 12:30-1 , give med He walks outside or watches TV, coloring *snack usually around 2:30-3:30 *Supper: 5-6 p.m. I make supper we eat in the kitchen together. He gets up when finished and watches TV or goes outside, coloring, depends on weather . He does the same thing every day. He's on a very structured easy routine. I find it helps him to keep things simple and familiar. Sometimes we go out riding just to see the scenery. From time to time he likes to ride around but only for short trips. After a couple hours he's ready to be home. *Pops gets bedtime meds at 8:30-9 Pops goes to bed usually around 9, just depends on whether or not he's tired or if he's watching a movie with us or football game. About the care needs: Personality fit for pops would be kind yet firm, fun loving. Jokester and likes to laugh. Once pops warms up to you, he's funny. Caregiver needs to understand dementia/alzheimers disease. Though it's mild, it's still there, (hence coloring for hours sometimes). Pops likes scanners (hand held radios) and will listen to his from time to time. Pops likes fishing but can not fish as good as he once could. We live directly on the lake. Pops likes western movies (only pg rated in our house though) Pops likes to color and gas lots of coloring books, crayons etc. Pops was a smoker (only 3 per day until 2 days ago). He decided he no longer wanted them. So no smoking here any longer. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
