About who needs care: My mother is a retired jack of all trades. She loves art, gardening, flowers, dogs, and spending time with her grandchildren. She has congestive heart and kidney failure that are managed with medication. She also experiences issues with her lower back and knees. The treatment for her lower back has been somewhat effective, but she still has knee problems. Even though she has various health issues she is a positive person and a force of nature. Her ideal day consists of waking up in the morning, eating breakfast, and reading the news, followed by gardening or working with her indoor plants. She might meet with friends or attend physical therapy or doctors appointments. It would be nice to do some light chores and then spend time in the garden or walk with her. Additionally, it would be ideal if her caretaker could wash her hair once a week. About the care needs: The ideal caregiver would be someone who can: - Come at least twice a week for several hours. - Perform light housekeeping. - Drive her to appointments as needed. - Spend time with her outside in her garden or engage in activities that keep her active (she is working on getting stronger with a physical therapist, and it would be wonderful for her to stay active with her caregiver). - Ideally, wash her hair once a week. Additionally, this person should be positive, have a can-do attitude, and be engaging. My mom is a doer (she talks softly and carries a big stick) and enjoys being around the same kind of people. If you enjoy dogs and gardening, that's even better (she doesn't currently have a dog, but we are looking for a small hypoallergenic dog for her). Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
