About the job
About who needs care: My mom would hate that I am reaching out about this. She has been independent for a long time. But like many of us, the pandemic took its toll on her. She has no diagnosed condition but I notice cognitive decline, specifically in short term memory. This leads to stress. Particularly about paying bills, checking the mail, household things. My brother and I have set up her bills so she doesn't have to worry but she still does. She often gets herself so stressed out, she won't eat. And she makes up excuses for not going to the grocery store. We deliver groceries to her. But that doesn't guarantee she eats. My brother and I both live out of town. He's a 7-hour drive. I'm a 3-hour flight. We are trying to come more often. But are starting to feel like Mom needs more help. Mom is also very social. She loves to talk to people. She doesn't get out like she used to. She talks on the phone a lot. But human interaction is so important. There's no need for medical attention now. It's mostly just help with daily errands, making sure she eats and help deescalating her stress about things she doesn't need to worry about. About the care needs: Social to hang out with, talk, listen. Encouraging of her independence as if they are just there to hang out and have a meal together. We don't want her to feel like she's being babysat. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
