My parents want to live independently and are moving to an apartment Jan 11th. We need someone to come at least 3 times a week or more to prepare a meal, assist with showers, light housekeeping, i.e. make sure fridge is kept in order, helping them keep the food they like in the house, bringing them to appointments or to visit us (we live closely). Do their laundry once a week. We need someone who is experienced with dementia, who can positively redirect and engage them in positive conversation. They are very nice but stubborn and argumentative with each other. Must have sweet and fun demeanor and lots of patience. Making sure they are up, making some coffee, looking in fridge and assess if they need anything, make a list for delivery. Make some breakfast or lunch. Making sure my mom gets in the shower and dressed. Put lotion on her. Ask about her life or pictures. Take her out to a walk (you will need to be creative because she will say no to everything). But she likes humor and a good time. Take them to lunch or her. Make sure if going out, she is dressed for the appropriate weather. They are both angry and don't like to accept help. Someone needs to help them but also give them their space. We need someone who has experience with dementia. My mom (87) has been diagnosed with it and cant remember from one second to the next. My dad is starting to have it but is mot diagnosed with it. He knows what day it is, but has trouble formulating his thoughts. Ideally, we would eventually like someone to live there. They have a brand new 3 bedroom apartment with lake view and amenities. But we have to see how things go and that everyone would be comfortable. Must have decent car they can ride in.
