About who needs care: walks independently with a wheeled walker on indoor surfaces. He uses two canes with one assist on stable outside surfaces, two assist on unstable surfaces. He is continent of bowel and bladder. He uses a urinal at night and occasionally needs boosted off the toilet if appropriate adaptive equipment isn't available. He is able to give himself a sponge bath of private areas. He needs one assist for a shower to wash legs, feet, and back and must be steadied getting in and out of the shower and use grab bars. He dresses himself with minimal assistance to fasten buttons or apply certain types of socks. He shaves himself with reminders. He has extreme hearing loss. He needs daily assistance to apply hearing aids. He removes them himself at night and places them on the charger. He is not able to clean them or change the filters. He uses a phone with captions as well as captions when watching TV. He cleans and applies his own glasses. He is able to transfer and stand up himself as long as he has something solid to hang on to and the surface isn't too low. He needs a boost otherwise. He feeds himself but needs foods that are softer and it helps if they are cut into small bite sizes. He also appreciates gravy or sauce to help moisten meats. He needs encouragement to drink more water. He is supposed to have a Gatorade offered daily. He has a low tolerance for activity and overstimulation. He naps for long periods of time throughout the day. He can take his oral medicine independently with occasional reminders once it it set up in an organizer. He has eye drops he needs help with twice a day. He is alert and oriented, pleasant and cooperative with all personal care. He has good long term memory and is generally good with his short term memory when he isn't overtired although is having difficulty retaining new learning involving technology. About the care needs: Patience and a positive attitude are important. My father lives off the grid in NW Montana. His property has many modern conveniences, and multiple places for a caregiver to live, including in his large house, but separate building accommodations can be made available. Any living arrangement will be rent free and reasonable changes can be made given enough time. Winters are particularly difficult and the caregiver must be good at driving on a dirt road for approximately 50 miles in difficult winter conditions. Some level of computer literacy is necessary and an interest in outdoor activities and recreation would be a bonus. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
