About who needs care: Both my Mom and Dad live in my home. They are 87 and 88 years old. Dad has lost his short term memory. He is still able to shuffle around the house, but may need a walker soon. He can perform about 80% of his ADLs, but needs supervision and verbal prompting, usually for each step in the process. He spends most of his time sitting with his eyes shut, appearing to be 'zoned out' listening to music or napping. He feeds himself and has a good appetite, but can't keep his eyes open during the meal; they are closed between each bite. He is incontinent of bladder, and bowel incontinence is slowly increasing, currently about 2-3 times a week. Mom is a tiny person with osteoporosis, weighing about 90 pounds. She is frail and needs 100% assistance with transfers and ADLs. She walks with a walker, but I usually have to gently pull it to get her to move around the house. She is more alert than Dad, but, due to a stroke, she has both kinds of aphasia, expressive and receptive, so she rarely talks, and we don't know how much she understands when we give directions or ask questions. She often doesn't respond in any way to directions or questions. But in general, we think she is alert and aware of what is going on and being said in the home. She has to be fed every bite at meal times, but, like Dad, she has a good appetite. She is incontinent of bladder, and sometimes of bowel. About the care needs: A patient, laid-back personality would be good, but who is detail oriented and likes to keep a clean home. We need someone who has experience, or is willing to learn, cooking vegetarian meals, mostly without dairy products. We are a Christian Family, and like to read/watch/listen to spiritual sources, and sing and pray together. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
