About who needs care: Harold (my husband) Had a stroke on 8/25/24. He has Global Aphasia and Apraxia and right sided paralysis. Monday -Friday arrives home from Therapy around 2 p.m. Needs to go to bathroom and currently transfers from wheelchair to Toilet using Sara steady. Then takes afternoon medication and transfers to bed also using Sara steady. Could use help with light house work such as cleaning bathroom that Harold uses, Sweeping/swiffering living room where Harold sleeps/ stays, hallway and kitchen area, doing his laundry once a week, unpacking his lunchbox from therapy and possibly a few dishes. Then just sitting with him until I get off work or he wakes from his nap. As he regains strength there may be less of him sleeping. I work at home and would be in my office in the basement if an issues or questions arise. I would ideally be off work by 4:30. Approximately Two Saturdays a month I do vendor events for my side business. Hours may vary but would typically be 7am-4 p.m. It would include making sure he has breakfast and lunch, takes morning and afternoon medication, toileting as needed and doing a bed bath, fresh clothing and changing bedding. Harold loved to hunt and be outdoors before his stroke. He liked to tinker in the garage or go hunt for arrowheads but is unable to do any of that currently due to being wheelchair bound. We hope to get him up and walking in the next few months. About the care needs: Caregiver must be ok with both large and small dogs. We have 3 dogs (1 mini poodle, 1 mini dachshund, 1 Rottweiler) that are all very friendly. They will bark until they get to know you and then will be your best friend. Someone who is not easily intimidated and is outgoing. Harold can be stubborn and needs someone who is kind but stern. I would like someone who is familiar with using a Sara steady and working with patients using a gait belt. Someone who has experience working with stroke patients who have or have had Aphasia and or Apraxia and one sided paralysis. Someone who doesn't mind if he is quiet and wants to just watch TV or when the weather warms up wants to sit outside. Services needed include: feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
