About who needs care: My dad passed away in the fall of 2021, leaving my mom alone without her person. She misses my dad terribly and wants to remain in the home in which they raised their family. Although some of her children live close, she is alone a lot. These past few years alone have been very hard for her and she really needs someone to come once or twice a week for a few hours to help do a few daily tasks (e. g., her daily laundry, wash dishes) and just encourage and engage with her so she can stay active with her hobbies - deck gardening, organizing, going through keepsakes, etc. She is a funny, feisty retired teacher who doesn't like the thought of not being able to do everything for herself, but she is working on that! She uses a walker and also does PT and OT to keep active. About the care needs: I am looking for someone who is funny and can joke around, but understands the culture of an 86-year-old former school teacher and her need to feel respected. My mom was once very active and liked to be outdoors, so I would love to find someone who liked to deck garden or take walks every now and then. My mom has a hard time asking for help, so I am also looking for someone who can anticipate needs and notice patterns to support her, so she feels cared for. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
