About who needs care: Dad goes to dialysis 3 days per week. He is a fall risk and needs a spotter when going up or down stairs. He is weak and usually tired. He is a tinkerer and enjoys mechanics and technology. Mom is mostly blind and has severe arthritis in her knees. She used to rely on Dad for many households' tasks, but he is not able to do much these days. She likes to follow world news. They both enjoy intellectual conversation. They would like help with transportation, housework, occasional help with care activities, and perhaps cooking and paperwork. They have a tri-level home. They tend to sleep till midmorning, except on dialysis days when they rise at 9 a.m. They take dinner around 6 or 7 p.m. Dad usually goes straight to bed. Mom stays up till about 10 p.m. They enjoy the occasional meal out, and Mom appreciates attending catholic church when she can. Otherwise, they don't get our much aside from doctors' appointments. Both children live out of state. About the care needs: You should enjoy intellectual conversation and be patient with those who have strong opinions.
