About who needs care: Sharon is able bodied and can pretty much care for herself, but she does have dementia and needs to be monitored and needs help with medications. I do not feel like I can leave her alone because of the dementia. Sharon likes to do crafts, paint. She likes to watch Friends and the news on tv. Mom's day is pretty low key- she watches Channel 9 news and shows in the morning, and she likes to clean the kitchen. She tends to wander around and it is good to find her a project to work on. She has coloring and painting activities to work on, and she likes to play card games like Minus 5, peg board, or Sequence. She really is not a napper but sometimes can get tired in the afternoon. Sharon has underlying health conditions that a person needs to be aware of. She has dementia, high blood pressure issues that are being managed and has had a blood clot and heart bypass in the past year. So, she is on blood thinners, and other meds. She has been in the hospital for pulmonary edema 2 times in the past year, but we do think with her blood pressure being under control we are managing this as well. About the care needs: The caregiver mom needs is someone who does like to engage in activities and games with her. She used to be very social, but as dementia has set in, she does not remember short term events and so she has a hard time making conversation unless talking about the old days. A warm and calm personality is the best fit for her. Services needed include: companionship.
