About who needs care: My mom is 69 and has schizoaffective disorder and OCD. She can walk and get around but needs someone with her for the moments when she feels unsteady or to hold her hand while she walks. She also may require assistance in the bathroom from time to time. Her mental health condition makes her worry about something bad happening to her family pretty much constantly, so she needs frequent assurance that everyone is safe and okay, and everyone is going to continue to be okay (which requires a lot of patience). She can also be afraid of random things and needs assurance to get through those moments. She is extremely kind and loves to socialize. About the care needs: She needs a patient, kind person who is reliable, as she does better with consistency (as opposed to working with lots of unknown people). She doesn't need someone with mental health training - just patience and some basic understanding of her conditions - but experience with schizophrenia and/or dementia (she does not have dementia but there seem to be some similarities) would be very helpful. She enjoys listening to music, singing Beetles songs, watching reality tv shows, trivia, and bingo. Services needed include: transportation, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
