About who needs care: My in laws are moving in with us and they are both suffering from different diseases. While my mother-in-law has aggressive lung cancer, my father-in-law has more ailments including diabetes, vasculitis, a-fib, etc and requires several appointments and specialists with an ever-evolving care plan. My husband and I both work full-time so while were trying to juggle both of their care, we know we need help. We mostly need someone who can not only drive him to appointments as needed but to actually go with him and reliably communicate with the doctors and with us, as his understanding of timeline, medications, etc is inconsistent at best. He walks with a cane or a walker and has neuropathy in his feet so he cannot drive. It would also be helpful to know what other care services may be available as we navigate cooking and managing a household for all of us. Perhaps someone that could get him out for a walk, help keep up with medications, and be a companion would be helpful. He's kind and means well but definitely a typical boomer so we would need someone with more patience than I have.
About the care needs: We are looking for someone who is a good driver, someone who has a unique amount of patience and a sense of calm. Someone who articulates well as he may or may not use his hearing aid. Someone who is open to conversation and doesnt mind hearing an old man ramble on about potential aliens. Someone who can influence him to understand reality sometimes when he gets confused or mixes up timelines. Someone who is punctual and trustworthy.
Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
