About who needs care: My mother is 87 years old and lives alone. She is active in bridge and still drives. She has severe asthma and COPD and suffers from a condition in her back. She walks very slowly and holds onto things. She refuses a cane or a walker. She enjoys playing bridge and working on puzzles knitting and crocheting. Mom gets up every morning and has her coffee and her cookie and then works her way downstairs to fix herself something to eat. She generally needs help with taking out the garbage and getting the mail. We have a House Cleaner that comes in and cleans every few weeks. I live in Florida during the winter months and am with my mother from May to September every year. My mother is alone from September to May. My mother has been relying on the generosity of neighbors to get her chores done. Unfortunately, their acts of kindness make it difficult for me to intervene and bring in outside help. Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
