About who needs care: My mother was a very active international health researcher. She now has multiple joint issues that make it hard for her to move around or even bend down. Recently she developed aggressive glaucoma that means she sees very poorly. Evening time is very hard for my mother because she is so fatigued. She needs help preparing dinner, setting up breakfast, taking her corgi out for a last pee, cleaning the dishes, and various things that may have come up during the day such as picking up items from the floor, wiping up a spill, etc. She likes to cook and bake, so making dinner "with" a caregiver might be fun. About the care needs: Cooking could be a good shared interest. My mother formerly hiked, canoed, skied. She has been actively involved volunteering with conservation organizations and Restorative Justice. She does NOT want to be treated like a child- needs to believe a caregiver respects her, even with her disabilities. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
